Day 1 : Bhimtal to Almora

On day 1, post breakfast all riders leave towards Almora. The distance covered for the day will be 63km. You basically have two climbs for the day. The first climb from Bhimtal to Bhowali is a 10km climb and is mostly gradual, allowing you to get a taste for what lies ahead.

Once at Bhowali you then have to descend 7km to reach Kainchi Dham where we will have our long halt. You can eat there as the road ahead is a flat a long while. Kainchi Dham is a famous temple in the area, which also finds mention in some rather popular literature. The snacks here are good, the place being known for its Aloo Poori.

Once refreshed here, the riders will move towards Kwarab which is basically the starting point of the climb towards Almora.  You will see a typical metal bridge which will take you across the river which you have been riding along crossing Kainchi. From here starts the 15km climb which is a rather steep at some points but still comfortable as the distance is not a lot and the altitude is quite low.

Once at Almora you check into your hotel room and relax. This has been a tough and long first day.
